I’m starting to explore my writing a bit more. I Should Be Writing this week gave me some nice insights and have kind of opened my eyes to the major problem I have been having lately. I have been obsessing over the quality of my writing. Worried that it isn’t good enough. Mur said that when you are writing, (I’m paraphrasing here) you should remove the editor from your shoulder. Don’t spend your time worrying about if you are using too many adverbs, “telling and not showing”. These are things that you fix when you edit the story. The Editor and the Writer, though they are the same person, can’t both be writing and editing at the same time. They each have their time and place. The writer has to get the story out and on the page and not worry about the little things. This has been my hang up lately. I have been way to caught up on the quality of my writing. I should just get the story out and then edit it later. Worry about the quality in the editing stage of it, when I rewrite. I need to just write, get the story on the page. So enough blogging, I should be writing, and so should you.
